Buick is making it rain but not in the trending sense of the phrase. Instead, the luxury automaker is literally making it rain on the 2016 Buick Cascada, said to be Buick’s weatherproof convertible. This isn’t a light drizzle either; the Cascada convertible undergoes a record amount of rainfall to ensure a watertight seal.
To test the seal, specialized water test booths are located at the end of the assembly line. There’s no road time or cooling period for the convertible. The vehicle rolls directly off the line and into the shower. Each booth has a minimum of 124 nozzles that pour down on the Cascada for 10 minutes before testing is complete. If the seal holds, the unit passes the test and heads off into the sunset.
“Convertibles are best enjoyed when it’s warm and sunny, but Cascada has been designed and engineered to be used year-round, regardless of the weather,” said John Dolch, program quality manager for the Cascada. “Not only is Cascada’s top engineered to be weatherproof in extreme conditions, but each and every Cascada built will also be put through a rigorous water test.”
With this kind of testing, we here at Knight Buick GMC are sure the 2016 Buick Cascada will be our number one choice for a convertible in any weather.
